Our company began with a simple idea of blending the play features of wooden toys with the functionality of traditional children's furniture. We envisioned a unique interaction where children could engage with our designs like a large, wooden toy, yet still enjoy practical uses such as seating, book storage, or a workspace. This foundational concept drove our passion for designing and crafting furniture that not only meets children’s needs but also stimulates their imagination and creativity.
From the outset, we committed to using only high-quality materials for our furniture pieces. While many competitors opted for budget materials like particle board, we chose to craft our creations from Baltic Birch plywood. This exceptional material has been cherished by generations of Scandinavian furniture makers for its durability and aesthetics. Our furniture is designed to withstand the test of time while maintaining its beauty, ensuring that it becomes a cherished part of childhood adventures for years to come.
As our company has evolved from those initial sketches and prototypes, we've implemented a secure, unobtrusive fastening system and expanded our production facility to enhance our capabilities. This growth has enabled us to innovate continually, bringing new designs to life that meet the ever-changing needs and desires of our young customers. Our Story
Minnesota-based designer and artist Phil Holsinger has dedicated his career to creating innovative and functional products for children. Holding a degree in Industrial Design from The University of Kansas, he has amassed over three decades of experience in the industry. Throughout his journey, Phil has developed a remarkable portfolio, collaborating with well-known brands like Radio Flyer, Hasbro, and Sonicare. His work reflects a deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of young users, emphasizing creativity and functionality.
Phil's passion extends beyond mere design; it revolves around the belief that furniture can do more than just serve a purpose—it can inspire play and imagination. At Square Bear Kids, he channels this passion into crafting exceptional pieces that resonate with both children and parents. His designs are thoughtfully created with the understanding that furniture should enhance everyday experiences while stimulating creativity and exploration.

At Square Bear Kids, our aim is to craft premium children's furniture. Our design and production facility is based in Two Harbors, Minnesota, a beautiful small town located on the shoreline of Lake Superior, which offers an inspiring setting for our work.

Giving Back

Utilizing this precious resource, we craft our plywood furniture with the utmost care. While wood is a renewable material, the process of nurturing trees and preserving forests demands both time and financial investment. To mitigate our environmental footprint and support forest conservation efforts, we have committed to allocating a percentage of our earnings to the Arbor Day Foundation. This organization is steadfast in its mission to safeguard forests, ensuring that upcoming generations inherit a thriving world abundant with robust and flourishing trees.
