Our vision is that our furniture will inspire play and imagination in the lives of children.
Our company began with a simple idea of blending the play features of wooden toys with the functionality of traditional children's furniture. We imagined children interacting with our designs like a large, wooden toy, yet that furniture would also serve a practical purpose, such as a seat, bookcase, or desk. We have since dedicated ourselves and this idea of designing and crafting children's furniture that embodies first concept.
It was also in the early days of the company that we chose to use only high-quality materials for our furniture designs. Much of today’s children's furniture is made from inexpensive and inferior particle board-type materials that do not hold up over time. Our furniture is made from Baltic Birch plywood, a material revered by generations of Scandinavian furniture makers for its strength and beauty. We proudly follow in their footsteps.
Our company has evolved since those early furniture sketches and prototypes. We have created a secure, unobtrusive fastening system and moved to a larger production facility equipped to build our designs. As we continue to grow and explore new designs for our young customers, we will remain dedicated to our mission of creating high-quality furniture that is functional yet inspires creativity and play.
Our Story
Meet the Designer
Minnesota-based designer and artist Phil Holsinger has dedicated his career to creating innovative and functional products for children.
With a degree in Industrial Design from The University of Kansas and over three decades of experience, Phil has built a remarkable portfolio, collaborating with well-known brands such as Radio Flyer, Hasbro, and Sonicare, among others.
His passion lies in crafting products and furniture specifically tailored for young users. At Square Bear Kids, he continues to channel that creativity into designing furniture that inspires play and imagination, ensuring that children can enjoy functional pieces that enhance their everyday experiences.

At Square Bear Kids, our aim is to craft premium children's furniture. Our design and production facility is based in Two Harbors, Minnesota, a beautiful small town located on the shoreline of Lake Superior, which offers an inspiring setting for our work.
We take pride in our unique designs that seamlessly blend functionality with features and styling that invite creativity and play in children.
Giving Back
We understand the crucial role trees play in maintaining the health of our planet, performing essential tasks like purifying the air we breathe and safeguarding our water sources. Utilizing this precious resource, we craft our plywood furniture with the utmost care. While wood is a renewable material, the process of nurturing trees and preserving forests demands both time and financial investment. To mitigate our environmental footprint and support forest conservation efforts, we have committed to allocating a percentage of our earnings to the Arbor Day Foundation. This organization is steadfast in its mission to safeguard forests, ensuring that upcoming generations inherit a thriving world abundant with robust and flourishing trees.
